A New Crusade
So, Hal Jordan is back as Green Lantern. You're happy that a great injustice has been corrected, but now you're looking for something new to obsess about. Look no further. As reported by Newsarama, there's a movement to bring back the Mighty Crusaders of Archie Comics, the team that featured classic characters such as The Shield, The Fly, and The Comet.

The goals are quite modest. Supporters want the Crusaders to return as a backup in one of Archie's existing comics. They've already setup a website and online petition.

While I would argue that there are quite enough superhero comics out there, the Crusaders would make a nice foundation for a line of all-ages superhero comics. If not, could we at least see a Captain America/Shield team-up?

I am a huge MLJ/Archie heroes fan. The Red Circle revision of these heroes in the mid-80s had a huge impact on me. They are some of the few super-hero comics I still have. And while the few appearances over the past 3-4 years have not been exciting ... I would love to see these characters appear. The Black Hood needs to come back. And the Comet. And the Shield. And Bob the Phantom ... simply because he is ... Bob the Phantom. -- Joe

My first introduction to the Archie/MLJ characters was Mighty Comics #48. The image of the Shield battling the Amoeba Man jumped out at me. I thrilled to the Hangman story. Ath that time I din't know that her was a hero-turned-villain-turned hero. After that I search for every Achie ultra-hero comic i could find. I found them a refreshing difference than anything Marvel and DC were doing. I was disappoitned when they disappeared. I later found out that these charaters had a rich history. When they came back in the 80's, I was thrilled, then soon disappointed when they were again discontinued. Needless to say, I didn't like the Impact versions. The heroes lost something in the translation. They became pretty much like evrything else in the DC universe. I think we need the Mighty Crusaders to return. We need a fresh change from the arrogant, angry "superheroes" who flood the newsstands today.

Sorry guys. Boy do I feel embarrassed. I did that last post late last night and meant to preview but hit publish instead. I was tired and ready for bed. Many typos. Please don't let that detract from the message. The comic reading public needs the Mighty Crusadres.
