Starting with Impact Comics, DC licensed the Red Circle heroes. The First Impact run last 18 months and shortly after editor Mike Gold left DC the line was dropped. Years latter DC signed J. Michael Stacznski to an exclusive contract and he wanted to write the Archie heroes. However, shortly after the contract was signed Stacznski began work on a new movie and the series was stalled for a year. When DC started publishing the Archie Heroes they had to do so without  J. Michael Stacznski. The entire line was canceled as DC prepared to cancel all their Super Hero comics and launch a new line of 52 super hero comics.
