I really like those Shield and Web covers, the Shield one especially.

I'll pick up Magog to get a Shield appearance, but no plans for Magog beyond that as I have no fondness at all for the character.

Giffen has made Magog extremely readable.... IMO it is a very, very good book.

I just haven't warmed to the character in JSA, especially the way he has been pushed front and centre in JSA All Stars. I thought Eric Trautmann's characterisation followed the established JSA tone pretty seemlessly and again I just didn't engage with the character in his Shield appearances. Since the writers that have depicted the character (where I have read him) have done so pretty consistently, I feel that I just have a problem with the character. If Kieth Giffen is writing him in a different way, then the question arises as to why there are two pretty divergent versions. If he is writing him in a similar way, then again I can see no reason to try his book out except for the Shield appearance(s). It may be just me, though.

no, Giffen has not written the character differently, but he has completely fleshed him out and breathed life into him. Giving Magog supporting characters to help develop his own character, and his reasonings and boundarys have made a huge difference.
