Who's Who:

The Mighty Crusaders Handbook

SOAR TO ADVENTUROUS

HEIGHTS WITH

THE FLY!

The 1950's were a major turning point in the history of comic books. The superheroes that had ruled the newsstands during the industry's "golden age" decade of the 1940's had fallen by the wayside, replaced in popularity by western, war, horror, and humor comics. As the decade drew to a close, that all would change as publishers found ways to revive and revamp the heroes of old. This revival came to be known as the Silver Age.

Many have heard of the origins of the Silver Age, but did you know that Archie Comic was a major part of the revival? Having had a successful line of superhero comics in the 1940's (published under the MLJ imprint), Archie Comics once again threw their hat into the ring, coming up with a brand new hero who is fondly remembered to this day: THE FLY!

Copies of the first four issues of "The FLY" would set many a collector back financially, but now you can read the Fly's formative adventures in a brand new trade paperback, THE ADVENTURES Of THE FLY, the latest entry in the RED CIRCLE reprint series!

To show how serious they were about getting back into the superhero business, Archie hired the already legendary team of Joe Simon and Jack Kirby to do what they do best: write and draw awe-inspiring superhero comics! The result was a superhero ahead of, his time. The Fly had a youthful alter ego, the proportionate strength of a creepy crawler, the ability to walk  on walls, and a special "sixth sense" that warned him of impending danger. Sound like anyone yon know? The fact is, The Fly actually beat the friendly neighborhood webslinger to the comic racks by three years! He's also considered an influence on other insect-inspired heroes, like Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Read how it all began in this historic edition: Tommy Troy is a young boy whose world is turned upside down when he meets an emissary of the Fly World and is given a special ring that magically transforms him into the superhuman FLY!  Along with Simon and Kirby, the Fly's earliest adventures were charted by some of the most legendary creative talent in comics, including Jack Davis and Al Williamson! All of these artists and more are featured in this special edition that collects titanic tales from 1959 and 1960. Features a cover by fan-favorite Joe Stanton, painstaking restorations of all stories, faithful recoloring and a forward by Joe Simon.

ADVENTURES OF THE FLY, ships 10/6.

96-page, full color trade paperback, $12.95 US.

SCRIPT AND ART: Joe Simon, Jack Kirby, Jack Davis, Al Williamson and various talent. Cover by Joe Stanton.
