Agent Shield was a series of mock covers to feature Mitch Kwok’s art and covering the pantheon of MLJ heroes. Over time Agent Shield joined Gilbert Monsanto’s Arena and we had Gilbert’s version of Agent Shield. Mitch has since moved on to produce his own comics. I am pleased to announce that Agent Shield will be moving from mock covers from the factious G-Man Comics to the real G-Man Comics with a real comic release featuring art by Gilbert Monsanto. To make sure there is no confusion that this character has no association with Archie Comics, the comic will be titled Simon N. Kirby: The Agent #1, and there will be modifications to the uniform.

Thank you for all your support.

THE FAMILY THANKSGIVING
Seven super-heroes gather together at a secret location for their Thanksgiving Dinner. Joe Higgins Sr. suggests that they should each tell the tale of their most exciting adventure.
The shield I (Joe Higgins Sr.)
Joe Higgins and Betty Warren are having dinner at a New York restaurant when a woman named Sally Rogers approaches them. She tells the couple that her father, Sam Rogers, has been taken by pirates off the coast of Africa, on a ship called the Baywolf. The Shield travels to the African coast to investigate the scene. He manages to find the ship. After evading the jaws of a hungry shark, The Shield finds Sam Rogers, subdue the pirates and reunite Father and Daughter.
Shield II (Joe Higgins Sr.)
Joe Higgins and Betty Warren are driving through the Canadian countryside when suddenly they come upon a twenty-foot unconscious man. Unable to do anything about it, they return to the city, where Joe begins investigating the extraordinary case as the Shield. He sneaks into the medical offices of a nearby hospital where he discovers that a doctor named Avenatti lost his medical license for performing illegal experiments involving pituitary disorders on mice. Hospital security guards burst into the room, and the Shield is forced to escape out the window. He continues following the trail with Betty. Along the side of the road, they find a giant-sized cat chasing a giant-sized rat. After romping around for several moments, both animals fall over dead. The Shield concludes that both animals were experiments of Dr. Avenatti. The Shield finds an old country house and enters the cellar. In the darkened room, he finds a man strapped to a laboratory table. The man explains that Avenatti has been kidnapping men and transforming them into giants. However, the effects are only temporary and ultimately fatal. Avenatti sneaks up behind the Shield and tries to kill him, but Joe manages to knock him out with a right cross, and take him into custody.
Shield III (Lancelot Strong)
Sargent Paige informs Private Lancelot Strong that he wants him to attend a military costume ball with his niece, Regina Paige. Lance decides to go to the function dressed as The Shield. When he arrives, he sees five other guests also dressed as The Shield. He learns that the other Shields plan on stealing military secrets and pinning the job on the real Shield. Lance gets into a fight with the imitators, but one of them knocks him down from behind with the butt end of his gun. When he awakens, he discovers that the thieves are gone. He sneaks into Sargent Paige’s office where he finds evidence indicating that Paige is the ringleader of his own robbery. In need of fast money, he staged the robbery so that he could sell the secrets. The Shield tracks down the thieves and apprehends all five men. He then exposes Paige’s fraud, and the MPs arrive to arrest everyone.
Shield IV (Bill Higgins)
Bill Higgins and Nancy Zenith attend a Job Fair in New York. Nancy learns about a job on a ship that will take them to the island of Tenochtitlan that would be perfect for Joe. She decides to investigate the despite Bill’s protestations. When they arrive at Tenochtitlan, they discover on the island that the interior of the volcano is populated with men calling themselves Lava Ghosts. The Shield notes that the alleged Lava Ghosts are coated with a strange material, which renders them invulnerable to the effects of the flames. The Lava Ghosts capture The Shield and Nancy and bring them deeper into the volcano to the lair of Tletepētl – the sorcerer. Tletepētl reveals that he is actually a scientist named Gus Vernon, who has developed a force generator that harnesses pockets of hot steam from the volcano, transforming it into pure force. With this technology, Tletepētl plans on taking over the world. The Shield breaks free and wrestles with Tletepētl. During the battle Tletepētl falls into the magma pits, killing him.
Shield V (Joe Higgins Jr.)
Joe Jr. is on a geology field trip at Calvin College when he notices an armored car robbery on a desolate stretch of road. Changing into the Shield, he attempts to leap on top of the hijacked vehicle, but slips from the roof and falls to the ground. Fellow student Mary Simmons comes upon him, and Joe revives just in time to prevent Mary from removing his mask. The Shield is back on the case and tracks the criminals down. He follows the stolen armored car to a private jet, where they hijackers are preparing to load $20,000,000 dollars in gold bars onto the jet. Bursting onto the scene, the Shield dives into the thugs and quickly overpowers them. Mary Simmons arrives at the scene with the police to take the men away.
Shield VI (Victoria Adams)
As crime runs rampant throughout the city, citizens begin to look towards Commissioner Mason for guidance. However, a political opportunist named Lacy manipulates events to get Mason out of office. He arranges it so that it appears that Mason is accepting graft, and has him exposed. To fill the vacuum, Lacy is appointed as the new police commissioner. Lacy maintains all of the city’s racketeering outfits but manages to keep a low profile on everything. Victoria Adams learns of the affair and decides to investigate The Shield. She consults with an investigative journalist named Paul Patton and together they plan to expose Lacy. Lacy sends his goons to kill Patton, but the Shield whisks him away to safety. The Shield goes after Lacy, traps the corrupt police commissioner and forces him to publicly reveal how he framed Commissioner Mason.
Agent Shield (Simon N. Kirby)
During the nights of the full moon, a mysterious shadowy figure prowls the streets of Capital City taking random lives. A guard from the Central Building is found dead, the apparent victim of strangulation. The director assigns Simon N. Kirby to the case, demanding that he find the killer as soon as possible. Kirby returns to the Central Building where he notices the presence of a strange brass gargoyle that had not been present on previous occasions. The gargoyle leaps down from its pedestal, declaring itself as Vavoom – a monster that had spent thousands of years trapped as a gargoyle. Now that he is free, he pledges to kill as many people as possible. Vavoom attacks Kirby, a battle ensues and Vavoom is subdued and placed into custody.

This issue…
THE BLUE RIBBON CRISIS – THE HISTORY OF EVERYTHING!
After the events of the last issue, the Shield turns to Mister Justice and says “What just happened?” Mister Justice explains to Joe. “Originally there was only one universe and the heroes began to appear in 1939 to fight off a great evil appearing in Europe. In 1940 Joe Higgins, you became the Shield. The first patriotic hero to fight evil with truth, justice, patriotism, and courage. But the Wizard Simon took your heart and gave it to a Goodman but you were never the same. After the war, you retired in January of 1948. You had a good run as a hero, but now was time to focus on your career at the F.B.I. settle down with Betty Warren and raise Dustin Simmons.
In 1959 the Wizard Simon returned and tried to replace you with Private Strong, a combination of yourself and a superman created by Wizard Seigel. By now you were 50 and well past your ultra-hero adventures.
At the same time, Wizard Simon brought a young boy, Tommy Troy into our universe and fractured it into the multiverse held together by the Blue Ribbon. Wizard Simon took the form of a Genie Turan and changes Tommy’s entire world letting forth Marvelous magic that did not belong in our universe.
Tommy was an orphan boy who with the use of a magic ring could become Spiderman. But as the Marvelous magic caused the first fracture, Tommy was no longer Spiderman, he was now the Silver Spider and no one noticed the change in reality. As the fracturing continued Tommy was no longer the Silver Spider, he was now the Fly. No one in the universe saw the change from spider to fly. But the fracturing around Tommy continued as he was transformed from a young orphan boy into a full-grown adult without anyone including friends and family noticing. But this caught the attention of the Wizard Seigel, as we mentioned before Seigel has a super champion and he came to Tommy Troy in January 1964 and changed him from the Fly into Flyman, again the shift, in reality, went unnoticed. But once in our universe, the Wizard Seigel changed reality again. In May of 1965 when you would be 56 years old you had an adult son William, who would follow in your footsteps. The reality was so twisted that you were missing and no one tried to save you. Not your son William, not your wife Betty or your adopted Dustin, not your best friend Blain Whitney, no one seemed to care you were missing.
William was also affected by the fractured magic he changed back and forth between being named William and Joseph Jr. without anyone noticing, in fact, William and Joseph Jr. had been the same person until they were split into twins and again this change in our reality went unnoticed.
By November 1964 you were freed from your spell of encasement at age 53 yet thought Wizard Seigel’s magic no one notice you and your son were now the same age.
In April of 1966, the Wizard Seigel cast a spell to bring back most but not all of the ultra-heroes from World War Two who were all in their mid to late 50s and de-aged into their 20s. The spell was so powerful that it has continued for more than 50 years; none of the ultra-heroes have aged a day and no one noticed.
There have been minor fractures of reality where Rosie Raymond didn’t want John to be a superhero and then, that disappeared and she became Pow Girl followed by another shift, in reality, were she and Ralph Hardy became brother and sister. John Raymond also became his own son and the ripple, in reality, caused John Sr’s hair to change color from moment to moment without anyone noticing or pointing it out.
In March 1983 you went out with the Mighty Crusaders when you were 64 years old and Bill was sent way to the Military never to be seen again. After a few years of fighting the good fight, you faded away again.
In October of 2012, the Wizard Kaminski brought you back at age 103 and while you looked older you didn’t look 103 you looked more like Sean Connery when he was 50. You took on a new band of heroes, the New Crusaders. While they were in their teens, their parents fought with you during World War Two. The US entered the war in 1941, 71 years earlier. Your friends were all approximately 100 years old and yet they had teenage children. The magic of the Blue Ribbon warped time and made these lapses in time and logic all seem normal.
In October of 2015, the Wizard Segura made the Shield female, Victoria Adams, and sprinkled her across the Blue Ribbon. Instantly she became the Shield from the American Revolution until the present day, and no one noticed there was retroactively a new Shield in the pantheon of Shields.
In January 2018 you were de-aged, not for your actual age of 109 but from your time with the New Crusaders. All of a sudden you were in your forties ten years younger than the last time you fought for justice and seventy years younger than the age of your birth.
Hans Martz was what never really there. He was a piece of fan fiction that took hold of our reality. When fans couldn’t accept that the Wizard turned evil, Hans was born and gave an excuse for Blaine Whitney’s actions. Hans became more powerful than our reality and he took control of the Blue Ribbon. The only way to defeat Hans was to allow him to think he won.
Hans traveled the Blue Ribbon attacking the ultra-heroes when the least expected. At the last moment, I stored their essence in the mind of a child, Duty the Boy Detective. Triggered by his memory of how things used to be, all the heroes were freed all at once in one place and were able to subdue Hans who was nothing more than an idea himself.

MEET RUBY RED!
Rachel “Ruby” Reuben is Reuben Reuben’s little sister. They ended up in different orphanages. One day, she happened upon the scene as a bunch of bad guys were sneaking up on Red Rube in an alley, where he’d just defeated one of their number.
Thinking to warn him, Ruby called out to him, “Hey, Rube!” Since she shared his genetic heritage, the Reuben ancestors’ gift worked for her, and she transformed into an adult form, clad in his costume.
She was young enough that she hadn’t yet developed much of a self-consciousness about being topless, and dove into the fray, much to the surprise and disadvantage of the bad guys, altogether.
Once the bad guys were defeated, Rube asked who she was and why she was wearing his costume. She explained that she wasn’t wearing it on purpose, she’d just called out to him, “Hey, Rube”—as soon as she repeated that call she transformed back. Recognizing his sister, Rube transformed back and explained what must have happened.
As our story comes to a close, Ruby transforms once more. This time she is prepared and dons a short-sleeved top which becomes incorporated into her costume from that time on.

THE CHAMPION OF LIBERTY
Agent Shield and Sgt. Flag return from their cross-time adventures. While recuperating, Sgt. Flag hears through his Marine channels about a new Red, White and Blue-clad vigilante operating in the DC area, using a uniform similar to that of the late Champion of Liberty. One eager young MARCOM specialist has tailed him, and linked him to known felon Jack O’Neill, thief and cyber-hacker who has been linked to cyber-attacks a few years back on systems at the Norfolk Navy Base.
Flag contacts Simon N. Kirby to see if O’Neill is a registered Ultra Hero or Criminal. Agent Shield does a quick check and finds nothing on a Jack O’Neill registered with the Ultra Agent Program. He tells McFarlane this, and tells him he’ll do a deeper check once he’s finished dealing with all the debriefings on his trans-temporal adventure.
Flag, never one to wait, heads off to track down this criminal who has obviously stolen the Champion of Liberty suit, a weapon arguably as dangerous as Kirby’s. The late Capt. John Steele may have been a squid pilot, and not a marine, but still, no petty ante thief and cyber-terrorist is going to be allowed to stain his record as the Champion of Liberty. Flag manages to track down O’Neill meeting with some pretty shady looking characters—obvious criminals—and begins to tail him, so as to catch him with the stolen suit.
Still feeling the effects of his WWII-era combat and the rigors of time travel, Flag briefly loses O’Neill, which really pisses him off. By the time he re-finds O’Neill, the felon has suited up. Flag confronts him, weapons drawn. O’Neill gives him some story about being John Steele, jr., and an FBI agent and registered ultra-hero. Flag ain’t buying it and demands O’Neill stand down. O’Neill demands that Flag stand the Fµ¢# down, himself. This does not go well. Flag fires a warning shot, which O’Neill parries with the Champion’s gauntlet. Now Flag is really pissed. More shots ring out. The gauntlets whine, and O’Neill punches the air in front of him, firing a percussive blast that knocks Flag on his ass.
This is about to escalate to more than a little roof-top collateral property damage when Agent Shield shows up. A minor force blast here and there later, he manages to call a truce. O’Neill or Steele is a registered Ultra Hero. Kirby didn’t find the data on his first look because he was looking under the O’Neill name. The damned paper-pushers hadn’t fully linked in the Jack O’Neill records to the John Steele, jr. records because O’Neill is still undercover and his activities are “classified”. Like the Ultra Agent Program didn’t have a “need to know” all the details about someone given equipment of the caliber of the Champion suit.
Jack snaps that he’d been trying to tell this trigger-happy bozo that. Flag rebuts that lying, thieving terrorists ain’t actually known for being the most truthful and trustworthy…. “Enough!” demands Agent Shield. “We’re all on the same damned side.” Grudgingly, the combatants shake hands. And so begins a fruitful, if occasionally explosive, alliance. Oh, yeah, and O’Neill should get a haircut and look a little more ship-shape. And it wouldn’t hurt Flag to get over one set of injuries before begging for another. Why…

He originally just saw himself as just another police officer and scoffed at wearing the outfit, not really even liking superheroes all that much, but as time went on, the lifestyle came to define him.
